ŠOBOT: UCC INCREASED MONTHLY REVENUE BY BAM TWO MILLION AFTER EXPANDING SERVICES

BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 25 /SRNA/ - The University Clinical Centre /UCC/ of Republika Srpska has expanded its range of services, generating approximately BAM two million in additional monthly revenue, while expenditures have simultaneously been reduced and the institution has undergone financial consolidation, acting Director General of the UCC Nikola Šobot said.

Speaking on the Media System of Republika Srpska - SRNA podcast, Šobot said that UCC had repaid more than BAM 20 million in debt to suppliers and BAM 14 million owed to the Health Insurance Fund. He said that one of UCC's major capital projects was robotic surgery, noting that teams were currently being formed for abdominal, urological, thoracic and cardiac surgery. "The point is not simply to buy a machine that you will not use," Šobot said, stressing that the acquisition of the robot would be accompanied by staff training at regional and global centers. Šobot also announced the completion of construction of a hybrid operating room for interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery, which he said would be unique in BiH, as well as the reconstruction of the gynaecology and paediatrics facilities and the Infectious Diseases Clinic. He stressed that 100,000 more examinations had been carried out in the first six months of this year and that additional shifts had also been introduced in the operating rooms of several clinics. Šobot said that the announced project to build apartments for young doctors, nurses and young married couples should be implemented on plots already designated in Banja Luka and Trebinje, with expected support from the Republika Srpska Government and city authorities. He said that the apartments would be intended for medical staff in short supply, with the aim of encouraging healthcare workers to remain in Republika Srpska by providing favorable housing conditions. Regarding the shortage of nurses and medical technicians, Šobot said that UKC had found a model whereby unemployed physiotherapy technicians would be employed while simultaneously undergoing retraining, the costs of which would be covered by the institution. "These people get jobs, and we get the staff we need," Šobot said. Šobot said that UCC currently had no shortage of doctors, as a large number of young doctors who complete medical school want to work at the institution. Regarding his vision for UKC in the coming years, Šobot said he wanted a top-level healthcare institution with the most modern equipment and highly qualified staff, renovated facilities and satisfied employees.
