ŠOLAJA: NO CHANGES EXPECTED IN US FOREIGN POLICY

BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – There should be no change in US foreign policy following the congressional elections, as the US president defines and directs this area, political analyst Miloš Šolaja said.

BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – There should be no change in US foreign policy following the congressional elections, as the US president defines and directs this area, political analyst Miloš Šolaja said.

"Much will remain fairly similar or unchanged, although US President Donald Trump will have to consider how to conduct relations with foreign policy partners," Šolaja told SRNA, commenting on the projected election results, which show Democrats taking control of both chambers of Congress. Šolaja said that Trump would probably now start thinking about who the Republican candidate would be in the US presidential election in two years. "He will work on building that person's profile and creating the conditions for that candidate to win the election," said Šolaja, who is also a professor of international relations at the Faculty of Political Science in Banja Luka. Šolaja pointed out that it was almost customary in the United States for the opposing or opposition party to win elections held halfway through a presidential term. "The fact is that Democrats won these elections by a convincing margin, most likely securing fairly dominant control of both chambers. This shows that Trump does not have the strongest support for his policies at this moment. The United States is facing certain economic problems, inflation is high and fuel is expensive. All of this led voters to turn to the Democrats," Šolaja explained. The Democratic Party has taken control of both chambers of the US Congress from the Republican Party, according to election results reported by the BBC. According to projected seat allocations, Democrats will hold 53 seats in the Senate, while Republicans will have 41. In the House of Representatives, the Democratic Party will have 219 members, while the Republican Party will have 126.
