ŽIVKOVIĆ-RAJILIĆ: CONSEQUENCES OF NATO BOMBING STILL FELT TODAY
BANJA LUKA, September 8 /SRNA/ - President of the Association of Women Victims of War of Republika Srpska Božica Živković-Rajilić, told SRNA that the Serbian people did nothing to provoke NATO's bombing of Republika Srpska in 1995, the consequences of which are still felt today.
On the occasion of tomorrow's commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of NATO Bombing, Živković-Rajilić stressed that the Serbian people must always remember and speak about their victims. "The Serbs suffered injustice and torture across all parts of BiH, and today we still face terrible consequences of NATO's bombing - namely, a large number of Serbs have developed cancer. If we don't talk about this, the so-called international community, especially the EU, will never even mention us," Živković-Rajilić said. She pointed out that many Serbs lost family members during the bombing. "NATO demonstrated force against the Serbs in 1995. We must speak about all crimes committed against Serbs because we are portrayed as culprits for the civil war in BiH, and not as victims," Živković-Rajilić emphasized. Tomorrow, in East Sarajevo, the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of NATO Bombing in Republika Srpska will be marked. NATO forces used depleted uranium munitions during the attacks, in which 47 members of the Army of Republika Srpska and at least seven civilians were killed, more than 100 soldiers wounded, and 21 civilians seriously injured. During the 16 days of bombing, NATO dropped more than 1,000 bombs on Republika Srpska, including Tomahawk missiles, with a total of around 10,000 tons of explosives. Additionally, depleted uranium ammunition was used, the effects of which are still felt by the population today. The initiative to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of NATO Bombing was launched in Andrićgrad on August 26, 2018, at the proposal of the News Agency of Republika Srpska - SRNA.
