GUBER NATURE PARK UNDER PROTECTION
BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 9 /SRNA/ - The Republika Srpska Government declared today Guber a Nature Park, which is located in the municipality of Srebrenica and covers a total area of 571.78 hectares.
The initiative to protect the area was submitted by the municipality of Srebrenica, after which the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical, and Natural Heritage prepared a Protection Study - the expert basis for declaring Guber a Nature Park, the Republika Srpska Government's Public Relations Office said in a press release. Guber Nature Park is being placed under protection to preserve its biological, landscape, hydrogeological, and geomorphological features, as well as for use in recreation, leisure, and health tourism, representing a combination of natural and human-made values. The press release says that the hydrogeological value of the area is particularly noteworthy, with more than 40 occurrences of mineral water outlets, including springs and fountains. The most well-known springs are Crni Guber, Mali Guber, Očna Voda, and Velika Kiselica. The purpose of this decision is to preserve nature and ensure that the management of the protected area is based on establishing a harmonious balance between the needs of nature conservation and human activities. This entails taking into account the needs of the indigenous population and the local community, including the use of resources for their livelihood, to the extent that it does not negatively affect the primary management objectives. The management of Guber Nature Park is entrusted to the Public Forestry Company Šume Republike Srpske, Forest Management Unit Drina Srebrenica. Currently, there are 34 protected areas in Republika Srpska, covering a total area of 73,038.43 hectares, which is 2.96 percent of the territory of Republika Srpska. With the declaration of the 35th protected area - Guber Nature Park, the area under protection increases to 73,596.26 hectares, which is 2.98 percent of Republika Srpska’s territory.
