STOJANOVIĆ: DR. LAZIĆ'S HUMANITY LEGACY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
EAST SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 18 /SRNA/ - The film "Linija/The Line" about humanity, courage, and patriotism of wartime surgeon Miodrag Lazić, will preserve the memory of a man whose humanity is a legacy for future generations, thanks to the support of institutions from Serbia and Republika Srpska, as well as the Serb people, Slobodan Stojanović, film director, cited in his SRNA interview.
Stojanović stated that Dr. Lazić was recognised as the most successful wartime surgeon in global medical circles, having performed 3,620 surgeries and saved hundreds of lives. “During his voluntary participation in the Defensive-Patriotic War, Lazić saved many people from certain death and exemplified the true Hippocratic mission - helping anyone who is wounded, sick, injured, or in any kind of trouble,” Stojanović said. He also emphasized that Dr. Lazić performed several surgeries a day, even while he himself was injured and had his leg in a cast. Stojanović explained that "Linija" conveys an important message about love, peace, and humanity. “This film is, in essence, an anti-war drama meant to show the senselessness of war, especially among brothers or neighbours. I expect maximum support from the public and key institutions to help record this historical period artistically, so it can transcend the borders of Serbia and Republika Srpska, be shown globally, and deliver an anti-war message,” Stojanović said. The film "Linija" is inspired by the war diary of Dr. Miodrag Lazić, and is based on a script by director and professor Dragan Elčić and writer Željko Pržulj. The leading roles are played by Aleksandar Lazić, Nenad Okanović, Nikola Rakočević, Nataša Miovčić, Radoš Bajić, and other renowned actors and actresses. Filming began at the Kovilj Monastery, and continued at the Pasuljanske Livade military range, as well as at the Morava and Lađevci airports. Surgeon Miodrag Lazić /1955-2020/, who saved lives during the wars of the 1990s in Republika Srpska Krajina and Republika Srpska, passed away on April 14, 2020, in Niš. In 1991, Lazić left his position as a surgeon in Niš and headed to the then Republika Srpska Krajina. During the war, he participated as a surgeon in the breakthrough of the corridor in June 1992. After that, he volunteered at the Koran war hospital in Pale. He was one of the founders of the Žica war hospital in Blažuj near Sarajevo, where he stayed for 40 months as the only surgeon in the area of what was then Srpsko Sarajevo, performing more than 3,500 surgeries under full anesthesia. In recognition of his efforts in saving the lives of Serbs and people of other nationalities, the blessed Patriarch Pavle of Serbia awarded Dr. Lazić the Order of Saint Sava. Lazić also received the Order of the Cross of Mercy, awarded by Republika Srpska, while Serbia posthumously awarded him the Order of Karađorđe's Star, First Class.
