BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA/ – The Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Savo Minić opened a conference and fair in Banja Luka today on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, observed on October 15, stressing that women are the pillars of society and that they will always have the Government’s support.

At the opening, Minić said that the Government had adopted a number of measures to improve the position of rural women. "Since 2009 or 2010, when we had about five percent of women as farm owners, we now have more than 20 percent. We must ensure everything necessary to make life easier for women in rural areas and to help them run their farms," Minić emphasized. He told the women who exhibited their handmade products at today's fair that they are the ones who lead their families, that they are the pillars of society, and that they will always have the support of the Government of Republika Srpska. The conference and fair were attended by ministers in the Government of Republika Srpska, members of parliament, and advisor to the President of Republika Srpska, Sonja Davidović. The aim of the event is to promote the work of rural women's associations, present cooperatives, as well as the goods these women produce and place on the market, all with the purpose of economically empowering rural women and improving their position. The conference and fair were organized by the Government of Republika Srpska's Centre for Gender Equality in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Srpska.
